Reporting directly to the Manager of UGME on the PEI Regional Campus of Memorial’s Doctor of Medicine program, the successful applicant is a crucial member of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) team. The Clinical Skills Curriculum Coordinator (CSCC) communicates regularly with the Clinical Skills Team at Memorial University to ensure that the program is delivered on the regional campus to accreditation standards. They need to ensure that clinical teaching spaces are secured through regular communication and coordination with staff in the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (CLSC). They are responsible for ensuring that the CLSC staff are aware of the type and number of standardized patients to be recruited and trained for many of the clinical skills sessions. The CSCC updates course documents to include information relevant to the PEI Regional Campus. They facilitate open communication between students and faculty related to UGME clinical skills and coordinate with PEI faculty to ensure that required evaluations processes and protocols are followed for all UGME clinical skills courses. They set up and lead the facilitation of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) stations. They ensure the maintenance of all grades related to UGME clinical skills are shared with the Memorial Clinical Skills team using secure file sharing in a timely manner as failure to do so can have a significant impact on student promotion. They participate as a key member in Memorial’s Clinical Skills Committee.
The successful applicant will build and foster relationships with Memorial University (Memorial) Faculty of Medicine UGME administration and faculty leadership and will play a key role in ensuring that all clinical skills processes meet the accreditation guidelines. The role supports faculty in completing required data collection instruments for the accreditors of medical education. This role supports the PEI Regional Campus in the full accreditation process and sits on the various committees established to ensure the data required is collected and reported according to the accreditation timeline. Additionally, this role helps to recruit supervisors and supports the mandatory research curriculum.

responsibilities
Clinical Skills Curriculum
- Ensures that faculty and community facilitators are prepared for their session(s) through regular communication about orientations, course materials, locations of clinical skills sessions, parking etc.
- Revises curriculum documents with PEI-specific content and ensures that PEI Regional Campus specific information is included in all curriculum documents and communications
- Coordinates with PEI and NL faculty to execute and facilitate the evaluation for all UGME clinical skills courses to accreditation standards
- Collects assessment information and ensures these are sent to Memorial in a timely manner using a secure file sharing system
- Sets up and leads the flow of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) stations
- Works in collaboration with Memorial’s Manager of Curriculum and Accreditation to ensure that the clinical skills program at the UPEI Campus meets accreditation standards
- Regularly examines best practice guidelines and innovations for clinical skills training to help ensure alignment with course learning objectives, program outcomes, and accreditation standards
- Liaises with students regarding all queries related to UGME clinical skills curriculum in collaboration with the Clinical Skills Coordinator at Memorial
- Collaborates with staff of the CLSC to ensure that clinical learning spaces are ready and available for learners
- Regularly communicates with the Standardized Patient Educators at the CLSC to share curriculum and ensure that the right number and type of standardized patients are recruited for the delivery of the clinical skills sessions
- Participates in the Clinical Skills Committee
- Documents and tracks hours contributed by faculty and community facilitators for reimbursement after each phase
- Maintains educator assignments in excel and the PEI UGME database
- Performs other duties as required to ensure the effective delivery of Memorial’s accredited UGME curriculum on the UPEI Campus
Regional Campus Accreditation
- Under the direction of Memorial’s Curriculum and Accreditation Coordinator, the Clinical Skills Curriculum Coordinator helps to ensure that data required is collected and reported according to the accreditation timeline
- Supports faculty, staff and students in completing required data collection instruments for the accreditors of medical education as part of the PEI Regional Campuses reporting requirements
- Participates and supports all PEI Regional Campus accreditation committees
Research Curriculum
- Leads the recruitment of appropriate research supervisors to be part of the mandatory research curriculum
- Liaises with the PEI Librarians to ensure they have the resources and information needed to support the students and faculty in their research component
- Documents hours contributed by research supervisors for reimbursement after each phase
- Coordinates room bookings and faculty assignments for the annual Research Day on the PEI Regional Campus
- Distributes and collects rubrics to/from research faculty on Research Day. Sends completed rubrics to Memorial via secure file sharing
Other duties as required and unique considerations
- Other duties as required to ensure the operational needs of the UGME curriculum are met over the four years of the Medical Doctorate (MD) program with engagement in UGME position cross-training and coverage
- This position is considered an essential position as the medical school curriculum relies heavily on this role to be able to be implemented so would be exempt from a strike position (infrequent)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of an undergraduate degree with at least five years related work experience. A combination of other education and related work experience will be considered
- Experience within a post-secondary institution or a health authority would be considered an asset
- This role requires a high degree of coordination with the academic support units within the UPEI Faculty of Medicine. As a result, the incumbent must demonstrate successful negotiation and conflict management skills
- Superior interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills are required
- To excel in the position, it would be essential to possess excellent analytical and organizational skills, effective leadership and strategic thinking abilities, and a solid attention to detail
- The successful candidate will be collegial, have strong attention to detail, and demonstrate commitment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, is required
- Knowledge of Desire2Learn (Brightspace) and One45 software programs would be considered assets
